What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle and nourishing hands on technique that uses light touch to examine membranes and movement in the fluids around the central nervous system (CNS). Relieving tension in the CNS promotes a feeling of well being by eliminating pain, reducing inflammation, and boosting health and immunity. The CNS is responsible for the bodies natural healing powers. CST focuses on removing restrictive forces or stagnations related to the craniosacral system. Enhancing the mobility of the craniosacral system improves the circulation of both blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to the brain, spinal cord, pituitary gland, pineal gland and the cranial nerves and more but I will keep this short.

What Can I Expect During a Treatment?

During a session traditionally a craniosacral therapist will start at your feet with a light touch of their hands around your ankles and work upward to the base of the skull. Your therapist will gently touch specific points for different amounts of time. Dependant on what the therapist is feeling in your CSF pulse. A normal cycle of this pulse is 6 - 12 cycles per minute. Commonly, this pulse is much more rapid and calming this pulse is what your therapist will do during your treatment.

Mind Body Integration

Since the craniosacral system has such influence on the physiological environment of the brain, many integrative processes between the psyche and body emerge.

Images, colours, emotions may all come to the surface during the treatment. The therapist is trained to guide you and

encourage the awareness of these sensations during the session with their touch or verbal cues.
